Roadworks

Visitors to the Island during 2008-9 will not have missed the fact that major roadworks are underway on the major east coast road from Rhodes Town all the way to Kolymbia.

The intention is to make this stretch a four-lane dual carriageway, (i.e. 2 lanes in each direction) complete with central safety barrier and traffic signals at major junctions. This will clearly improve road safety for all and hopefully reduce the number of accidents which occur on this road.

Inevitably, these roadworks will lead to minor delays and frustration and certainly the mess created is somewhat of an eyesore.

Nevertheless, it is hoped that visitors will understand that to eventually enjoy the benefits these improvements will produce, it is necessary to suffer the disadvantages.

It is anticipated that such works will be completed by spring 2010. Thereafter, a new section will commence, from Kolymbia all the way to Lindos. Imagine! Rhodes to Lindos in 30 minutes !
